The WordPress formatting tools are pretty straightforward, and many of them look and function in ways you are likely familiar with. Highlight the text you want to format, and choose a button from the formatting menu. The menu allows you to add bold, italics, bullets or numbered lists, and so on, as well as to adjust the alignment, indenting, etc.![]()
There are a few useful formatting features that you may not be familiar with. These include:
The “More” button
You may only want part of your blog post to appear on the main page, particularly if you’ve written a lengthy post. The More button allows you to specify where you want to insert a link that will direct your reader to the full post on a separate page. To use this feature, position your cursor on the line where you want the divide to appear and click the More icon.![]()
Adding links
To add a link to your post, highlight the text that you would like to turn into a link and then click the link icon.
Copy the URL for the page you want to link to into the URL box. If you would like for your link to open in a new tab or window, select the “Open link in a new window/tab” button. Then click “Add Link.”
Adding images
To add an image to your post, click on the “Add Media” button above the formatting palette.
Click on the “Upload Files” tab and then either drag the image into the box below or click “Select Files.” Choose your file or files from the browser window that opens up.
Fill out the boxes on the right side of the page, and choose how you want the image to be aligned, and how big you want it to be. Then click “Insert into post.”
